grey photos

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son! / The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! / Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun / The frumious Bandersnatch!" Beware the grey mist that descends on Amsterdam in this time of year. Beware the cars that don't see you and race along at breakneck speed. Shun the zebra crossings that nobody pays attention to…

In this happy mood I walked to Amstel Station. A dense cloud had settled on Amsterdam and you couldn't see further than 50 m. In the Ringvaart the ducks were using radar to avoid collisions.

Once I found my way to Maliebaan I knew that Amstel Station couldn't be too far away. I couldn't see it, though. After finding the station I took the #40 to work there.

At work I did some more work on the power program and redesigned the pages for the Nikhef part of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange.

When I walked out, the world was just as grey as when I walked in.

Normally cars drive like mad on the Kruislaan. Today everybody drove a little slower. Not surprising, since most cars don't have radar and can't see where they're going in this fog.

I took the #40 to Middenweg and walked past Frankendael. Here I met my old neighbour Jaap who was on his way home. We stopped and talked for about 30 minutes, catching up on who's doing what, where and why. He promised to drop by fro coffee when he's in the neighbourhood.

When I got home I wokked noodles with vegetables and beef in hoisin sauce. Very nice. For dessert coffee with a little piece of 72% chocolate. I like the Senseo coffee maker that I bought last week. It is so much faster and easier to make a small cup of coffee now. I haven't used my drip machine since last week.

Beautiful fog pictures... it's funny how we live in opposite seasons.
